Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are evangelizing their new supernatural drama series Preacher with a full directors’ commentary on the pilot episode, which first aired unadorned on AMC last Sunday.

In the commentary version, released Thursday on AMC.com, the directing duo (and executive producers) delve deeper into their adaptation of the cult comic, a pet project they’ve been eyeing for a decade.

“We’ve loved Preacher forever,” Rogen says early in the episode. “We read it when it came out in the ’90s, and we’ve been trying to make it for around 10 years, basically.”

“Pretty much a bunch of more talented and successful people had their chances,” says Goldberg, “and slowly but surely, somehow they all failed and it ended up being us.”

Developed with Breaking Bad alum Sam Catlin, Preacher stars stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, a faithless clergyman in small-town Texas who is imbued with an unconventional power by a mysterious entity. Ruth Negga plays his ex-girlfriend Tulip, and Joseph Gilgun portrays an Irish vampire named Cassidy.

New episodes of Preacher resume June 5 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
