Golden Globes 2016: The Revenant wins Best Picture Drama

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 19th century revenge tale The Revenant has won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

“I cannot say how surprised I am and how proud I am to have survived this film with all these fellas,” Iñárritu said, accepting the award.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the film as Hugh Glass, a trapper and frontiersman who travels through harsh terrain to find the man who left him for dead (played by Tom Hardy) after he was brutally attacked by a bear. DiCaprio also earned the Golden Globe for his performance in the film, as did Iñárritu for directing.

“It was a mecca, a voyage, a biblical tale that [Iñárritu] wanted to experience and when a director of that caliber asks you to go on a journey like that, you jump on board,” DiCaprio told EW last year. “The whole thing was a huge endurance test for all of us, but at the end of day so much of what we experienced and what we talked about off-camera about the undertones of what this movie meant, I feel, changed the shape of the narrative and ultimately made it an even more poetic film.”Where is “The Revenant” Being Played Most Today? | PrettyFamous

The Revenant received four Golden Globe nominations, including ones for DiCaprio, Iñárritu, and best original score. In the best drama category, it beat out Room, Carol, Spotlight, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
