It seems almost crazy that The Hateful Eight features the first full-length collaboration between Quentin Tarantino and Ennio Morricone. Of all the pop culture references Tarantino has deployed over the years, Morricone’s music is one he’s returned to frequently, sampling one of the composer’s many iconic Western soundtracks for Kill Bill and even soliciting a new track for Django Unchained. But for The Hateful Eight, Tarantino finally got Morricone to score an entire movie for him. Listen to the first track from The Hateful Eight‘s score, “L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock,” below (complete with animated snow).

The Hateful Eight will premiere Christmas Day in a small run of “roadshows,” with a wide release on Jan. 1.
