Leave it to Chicago Fire’s Kelly Severide to meet a woman within five minutes of his required management class. But just like everything else in the hunky firefighter’s life right now, the romance will quickly turn south.

“We both have common ground. I have to take the course, she has to take the course and we help each other and we build each other up,” Taylor Kinney tells EW in the above video. “But then down the road it gets hairy; someone double-crosses the other person.”

So if this fling isn’t working out, is there hope for Severide and April (Yaya DaCosta) now that she’s sticking around on Chicago Med? Don’t hold your breath for that, either. “They were friends and I think if we get too involved and mix that up it just takes away from the meaning of that,” Kinney says. “I’m not saying in the future anything is or is not going to happen, but I think right now and with logistics [of her being on another show], right now we’re good friends.”

Check out our interview for more from Kinney about reuniting with former Vampire Diaries actor Steven R. McQueen and how Severide will work his way back up in just a few episodes.

Chicago Fire airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
