Here’s a potential drama that comic book geeks should fully embrace: FX is considering whether to develop Y: The Last Man into a TV series.

EW has confirmed that FX is looking for a writer to adapt the popular sci-fi comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. The series is about a man named Yorick Brown, who together with his pet monkey who survives the death of all other men on Earth. Sixty issues of the series were published by Vertigo from 2002 to 2008.

And you gotta love this little detail: a gathering to celebrate the final issue was reportedly staged in a shop on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, and attended by uber-producer and fanboy fave Joss Whedon. Chuck star Zachary Levi, meanwhile, has supposedly indicated that he’d love to play the lead role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, an adaptation of the comic series has been long in the making. There have been repeated (but failed) attempts to make it into a movie.
