TV Article Online hoax claims R.E.M. is suing Donald Trump [UPDATE] By Dana Rose Falcone Published on September 16, 2015 11:25PM EDT Photo: Martial Trezzini/AP file A report claiming R.E.M. had formulated plans to sue Donald Trump and Ted Cruz proved to be a hoax, but not before some sites, including Entertainment Weekly, picked up the story. Last week, R.E.M. made its detest towards Trump and presidential candidates using songs without permission abundantly clear last week. “While we do not authorize or condone the use of our music at this political event, and do ask that these candidates cease and desist from doing so,” R.E.M. wrote on Facebook after Trump used “It’s the End of the World as We Know It” during a rally last week.
