TV Article Incredibles 2: Brad Bird gives update on Pixar sequel By Jonathon Dornbush Published on September 14, 2015 03:11PM EDT Photo: Pixar/Disney Writer and director Brad Bird is hard at work on the still undated sequel to the 2004 Pixar hit The Incredibles, and he’s offered fans an update aboutc how far along the project is while they wait to find out just when they’ll see it. Speaking with Collider, Bird mentioned that he’s moving along steadily with the script, nearly complete with a first draft. “I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it,” he said. Bird also mentioned that he’s brought back many of the people who worked with him on the first film “so we’re all having a good time with it.” But The Incredibles 2 has a unique challenge that its predecessor did not — the sheer number of superhero films being released every year. Five superhero films opened in 2004, and while that’s no small number, they didn’t come with the frequent critical or commercial success that superhero movies do now. Only two of the superhero movies that year grossed more than $150 million worldwide — Spider-Man 2 and Blade: Trinity. The other films released that year were Catwoman, The Punisher, and Hellboy. Meanwhile, 2016 and 2017 have no less than six superhero movies apiece slated for release, most with a much larger projected gross than what befell some of those 2004 films.
