Goosebumps trailer: See Jack Black as R.L. Stine

Moving as a kid can be tough, and it’s even harder on Zach Cooper when he realizes his new neighbor is R.L. Stine, author of the fear-inducing Goosebumps book series. In the first trailer for Rob Letterman’s Goosebumps, we see Jack Black as the well-known author, who aims to keep his daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush) and his books away from Zach (Dylan Minnette).

But one night, Zach senses danger next door and wanders over, only to end up unlocking every monster Stine has ever written. Soon, Zach, Hannah and Stine find themselves fighting the Abominable Snowman in the grocery store and fending off evil gnomes in their kitchen.

When speaking with EW last year, Black clarified that the movie’s events never actually occurred, and explains he took liberties with Stine’s character. “This is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books,” Black said. “I also got to meet R.L. and he’s a really great guy. Really smart and funny and sweet. But I made [the character] more of a sort of curmudgeonly dark, brooding beast master.”

Goosebumps hits theaters just in time for Halloween this October.
