George A. Romero isn’t done with zombies just yet. After the publication of his graphic novel, Empire of the Dead, began last year, Demarest has just announced a television adaptation of the work.

With the deal coming out of the Cannes Film Festival, Romero is signed on to write and executive produce the Empire of the Dead series alongside longtime partner Peter Grunwald. Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson will also serve as executive producers.

“We’re very excited to team up with Demarest on a project we’ve loved from the beginning,” Grunwald said in a press release. “The story has taken us to some new and unexpected places, and we can’t wait to bring it alive on screen.”

For those of you who don’t know the story of the Empire of the Dead, which is published by Marvel, it focuses on a world where there is more than one kind of living dead. In other words, zombies are old news.

That being said, the project has yet to be sold to a distributor, so questions of when and where fans can see it remain unanswered at this time.
