Sure, the 2014 action film was a low-budget sleeper hit. Sure, the film’s unique cocktail of thrills—retro-grunt action, neon-noir New Wave style, a supporting cast entirely composed of scene-stealing character actors—turned John Wick an immediate cult object among action-film diehards and frustrated film critics. Sure, everyone involved in the movie seemed open to a sequel. But now, at last: Confirmation! Lionsgate has announced that they are producing a sequel to John Wick, which will reunite co-directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski with screenwriter Derek Kolstad and John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves. No word on the film’s plot, but hopefully it will expand the curious universe of well-groomed assassins who stay at chic Manhattan hotels and have a shadow economy built on gold coins. But yeah, I’m thinking John Wick is back.
