And according to showrunner Laurie McCarthy, this could be the beginning of the end for Francis. But his reign isn’t over yet. And when we pick back up, Mary will learn of Francis’ illness and rush to his side. EW has an exclusive sneak peek of that moment, when Mary first visits her husband. It’s a highly emotional scene that doesn’t start out on a great note—Catherine blames Mary for killing her son “by breaking his heart”—before Mary begs an unconscious Francis, on behalf of all of us, to “please, please live.” Reign airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
