McG to direct ABC Family 'Shadowhunters' series premiere

By the angel! ABC Family’s straight-to-series drama, Shadowhunters, has tapped McG (The Mysteries of Laura, Chuck) to direct the opening episode, as reported by Deadline. McG will also executive produce the series. The new show is based on Cassandra Clare’s popular YA series The Mortal Instruments, which got the feature film treatment in 2013’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. A sequel to the film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, was put on hold indefinitely in 2013.

McG’s reps did not respond immediately to EW‘s request for comment.
