World Series Game 5 first pitch honors Giants fan Robin Williams

ORIGINAL STORY: Family and friends were on hand for a tribute to Robin Williams during the fifth game of the World Series on Oct. 26 to honor the late Giants fan.

Zak Williams, the comedian’s oldest son, threw out the first pitch of Game 5 last night, with Billy Crystal at home plate to catch it. Zak’s siblings Zelda and Cody Williams joined him on the pitcher’s mound at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

The remembrance for Williams, who died on Aug. 11, extended beyond the pitch. The Giants also screened a tribute reel of many of the actor’s most famous roles as well as pictures of his visits to the ballpark with players like Willie Mays and Barry Bonds.

A clip of Williams rousing the crowd before a game in 2010 was also played for those in attendance.

Williams successfully found Crystal with his pitch before Crystal introduced the game for fans. The Giants would go on to win the game 5-0.

Williams’ children released a statement through the Giants describing their decision to throw the first pitch.

“We are honored to be here in support of the tribute to our father, someone who loved his hometown and especially the Giants. For all of us, it is a tremendous delight and a little surreal to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of a World Series game for our team to our dad’s best friend. We could not think of a better way to celebrate his memory. Let’s go Giants!”
