EW has learned that the Terra Nova and Life on Mars actor has signed on to the cable network’s miniseries Sons of Liberty as George Washington, that famous commander-in-chief of the Continental Army who became America’s first president. According to History, the six-hour miniseries follows the journey of our founding fathers—from the Boston Tea Party to the signing of the Declaration of Independence—as they “band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation.” Other notable names in the cast include Ben Barnes as Sam Adams, Henry Thomas as John Adams, Michael Raymond James as Paul Revere, Rafe Spall as John Hancock, Ryan Eggold as Joseph Warren, Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin, Marton Csokas as General Thomas Gage, and Emily Berrington as Margaret Gage. Sons of Liberty began production this month in Bucharest, Romania, and does not have an air date yet.
