MTV2 is sending Fat Joe and Sway to the plate to take a swing at mashing up the worlds of Major League Baseball and pop culture.

The “What’s Luv?” rapper and MTV personality — along with Girl Code and Guy Code stars Chris Distefano and Melanie Iglesias — have signed on to host Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave. The network has ordered 30 episodes of the weekly half-hour show, which will feature players like Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz (seen above, with Fat Joe) and Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano talking about all things entertainment while offering a peek into their lives off the field. Off the Bat will be based in the MLB Fan Cave in New York City, where interviews will be conducted with players as well as famous baseball fans. The show, which has been filming with MLB players at spring training, also will venture out on location for segments like sneaker shopping with Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and restaurant hopping with Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones.

Ortiz is an executive producer of the series, while Cano, Jones, Fernandez, Atlanta Braves pitcher Craig Kimbrel, and Tampa Bay Rays right fielder Wil Myers will serve as exec producers for individual episodes.

Off the Bat, which is the first series resulting from a previously announced partnership between MTV and Major League Baseball, is slated to premiere in April.
