Alyssa Milano on 'Project Runway All Stars,' her clothing line, and what Samantha Micelli would be doing today

At the premiere party for season three of Project Runway All Stars in New York City last night, new host Alyssa Milano talked about joining the reality competition series, her background in fashion, and why, if Who’s the Boss was still on the air today, Samantha Micelli might have forged a career in the apparel industry.

“Harvey Weinstein saw an episode of Fashion Police that I co-hosted and decided that I would be a good fit for All Stars, which is bizarre on so many levels,” Milano — who joins designer judges Georgina Chapman (wife of Harvey Weinstein) and Isaac Mizrahi — told EW of being recruited by the show’s executive producer. “[I’ve been a] huge fan of the show… which is scary because I know how amazing Heidi is, but I went into it trying to not pretend to be anyone else and just do my thing.”

Aside from her guest gig on Fashion Police, Milano has experience in the industry, having launched her own sportswear company in 2007. “I have the licensing for all the leagues; MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, college, and NASCAR. It’s pretty cool,” she said of her second career as a designer. Does that mean we can expect a sports-inspired challenge on this season of All Stars?

“No, but I’d love to do one [next season].”

All-Stars fans can expect to see Milano shepherding 11 former Project Runway contestants through their Project Runway do-over. And there’s a twist: Three of the competitors are winners from past seasons. Making appearances as guest judges are Gabourey Sidibe, Kristin Chenoweth, Elisabeth Moss, Nick Cannon, Debbie Harry, Gayle King, and Project Runway alums Mondo Guerra and Christian Siriano.

With so many of her sitcom contemporaries — Michael J. Fox, Melissa Joan Hart, and Scott Baio to name a few — coming back to scripted television, would Milano ever consider revisiting her Who’s the Boss character in a Girl Meets World style spin-off?

“That’s a really good question. [Sam would] probably have a few kids by now, and I’d like to think she’s still married to the guy she got married to in the series finale,” Milano said. “I don’t know what she would do for a living. She was always really into sports, so maybe she’s some sort of sports journalist.”

Or maybe, like the actress who plays her, she’d have her own sports apparel company?

“There you go. [That would be] perfect.”

Season three of Project Runway All Stars premieres Thursday, Oct. 24, at 9pm EST on Lifetime.
