SAG Awards: Did Jennifer Lawrence almost lose the bottom half of her Dior dress?

“On no! Jennifer Lawrence rips her dress as she walks on stage to accept her SAG Award, while battling pneumonia,” reads the — long-winded — headline in today’s Daily Mail UK.

But did the actress actually suffer a wardrobe malfunction as she crossed the room to claim her Best Actress Actor trophy at last night’s SAG Awards?

Well, not quite.

“An excited Jennifer, 22, narrowly escaped being completely exposed as her dress came close to tearing in half as she headed on stage to collect her statue for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role,” reads the Daily Mail story, which is illustrated with images of Lawrence as her Dior gown “fell apart” and reaction shots from fellow actresses Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman.

But after a few minor adjustments, Lawrence arrived at the podium with her gown perfectly intact.

“The dress is made with different levels of tulle and satin and that is what the viewers saw when Jennifer lifted her dress slightly,” a rep from Dior — which signed the actress to star in its Spring/Summer 2013 Miss Dior bag advertising campaign — told EW. “It was not ripped and there was no malfunction… it was the design of the gown.” So, although Lawrence did flash the audience, her upper thighs were covered by a layer of sheer lining and at no risk of being fully exposed.

Nothing to see here folks! Like Jennifer Lopez’s Oscars “slip,” this appears to have been an optical illusion.
