Hurricane Irene: 'One Tree Hill' production shut down

While the lights of Broadway prepare to dim on Sunday for Hurricane Irene, the lights on the set of The CW’s One Tree Hill have already gone dark. The show, which shoots in Wilmington, N.C., has shut down production for Friday and Saturday. Star Sophia Bush tweeted late Thursday, “OTH production has been canceled for tomorrow. All our fans in town, please stay inside! We will not be filming. Stay safe #HurricaneIrene.” Costar Austin Nichols also announced the news to fans: “Shutting down production tomorrow. Can’t wait to dance with this large woman called Irene.” In a statement, a rep for the show says, “As a precautionary measure and in consideration of our cast and crew, One Tree Hill production has shut down for today and tomorrow due to Hurricane Irene. We will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days.”

The NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment tells EW it has revoked filming permits that had been issued for New York City for Sunday, Aug. 28 due to Hurricane Irene. The six small productions that were scheduled to shoot this weekend had already voluntarily rearranged their schedules because of the weather. Those include the reality shows Hoarders and Clean House, the film adaptation of Leslye Headland’s play Bachelorette (starring Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst, and Lizzy Caplan), and the untitled follow-up from Like Crazy writer/director Drake Doremus starring Guy Pierce and Amy Ryan. If Irene hits New York City hard and causes power outages, flooding, and transportation issues that last through Monday, more TV shows could be affected. Just earlier this week, Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced that a record-breaking 23 primetime TV shows film in the city’s five boroughs.
