TORTILLA SOUP

A widowed chef (Elizondo) enters the autumn of his life depressed because he’s lost his sense of taste and smell. Now he cooks mainly for his three full-grown live-in daughters: There’s the rebel with streaked hair, the no-frills businesswoman, and the born-again fanatic. But all arrive at the same subtle crossroads in life: Who’s the parent here? Though the story is gentle and sweet enough, ”Tortilla”’s true star is the sumptuous food: It’s what holds these characters together. Much like Ang Lee’s ”Eat Drink Man Woman” — clearly an influence — the film is both a cinematic and epicurean delight.
