''The Outsiders'' set to return

The remake of the Francis Ford Coppola classic will be helmed by director Brian Robbins

Will Ponyboy ride again? Varsity Blues director Brian Robbins is looking to remake the 1983 coming-of-age classic The Outsiders. A daunting prospect, considering the much-beloved original was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and launched the careers of Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, and Patrick Swayze, among others. ”I don’t think it’s blasphemy,” Robbins says of the yet-to-be-cast project. ”I’m not trying to make the same movie. I’m interested in the relationship between brothers…and if you combine it with the [high school] violence that’s going on today, it’s a story that holds up.”
