Natascha McElhone: who's that girl?

The "Truman Show" siren makes a lasting impression

WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN HER BEFORE? The 27-year-old British stage vet with searing eyes and a sensitive touch costarred opposite Anthony Hopkins in Surviving Picasso and Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt in The Devil’s Own.

WHAT’S SHE UP TO NOW? Playing free-Truman activist and long-lost love interest Lauren Garland in The Truman Show, a role she landed after auditioning in director Peter Weir’s hotel room. “His assistant taped us both playing the scene,” she elaborates, “and he called my agent the next day.”

WHAT’S NEXT? She’ll trade her Truman fixation for terror tactics as a gun for hire in league with Robert De Niro and Jean Reno in the espionage thriller Ronin. After that, who knows? “I’m sort of scouting around at the moment,” McElhone says. “I read 32 scripts in the last two weeks, and I can’t find anything that I want to do. So maybe I’m just being difficult or maybe the standards are dropping. I can’t figure it out.”
