When the show was taped in April it featured Bennett performing with Dando as well as k.d. lang and Elvis Costello. But on the advance tape of the broadcast, Dando’s tuneless rendition of ”Solitude”-which had the audience wincing-is absent. MTV blames time constraints: Since Bennett recorded more than 30 tracks for the hour-long show, something had to give. ”Tony had a lot of creative input,” says an MTV spokeswoman, ”and I guess he decided to go with other songs.”
