Robert Metzke is responsible for sustainability efforts at Philips, a Dutch multinational that once made consumer electronics and now focuses on health technology. He leads the company’s strategy to adopt innovative, sustainable business models and promote equitable and sustainable health care. He is a board member of the Philips Foundation, a non-profit organisation that uses Philips know-how to help medical professionals around the world reach underserved communities and mitigate the environmental impact of their work. Before joining Philips in 2008, Mr Metzke was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, gaining experience in strategy and innovation in tech and health care.

Uwe Hochgeschurtz was appointed Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe in June 2022 and has served as a member of Stellantis’ Top Executive Team since September 2021. Previously, he was Brand Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Opel and Vauxhall, a position he held since joining Stellantis in September 2021. Hochgeschurtz has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. He started his career at Ford in 1990, where he held various management roles. For example, he was Sales Director for Ford Switzerland and Product Manager and Head of LCV Marketing in Germany. In 2001, he moved to VW as Head of Worldwide Marketing LCV. Three years later, he moved to Renault, where he worked in sales, marketing and product planning before being appointed CEO of Renault Germany, Austria and Switzerland in June 2016. Hochgeschurtz studied in Germany (Wuppertal & Cologne), Great Britain (Birmingham) and France (Paris Dauphine) and has a master’s degree in business administration and management.

Paul Polman works to accelerate action by business to tackle climate change and inequality. As CEO of Unilever (2009-2019), he demonstrated that business can profit through purpose, delivering shareholder returns of 290% while the company consistently ranked 1st in the world for sustainability. Today he works across a range of organisations to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which he helped develop.

Nicolai Tangen
Chief executive, Norges Bank Investment Management
Norges Bank Investment Management runs Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, the largest single owner in the world’s stock markets. Nikolai Tangen joined Norges as chief executive in 2000. Previously, he ran the AKO Capital investment company, which he founded in 2005. Mr Tangen, who studied art history in addition to finance, social psychology and Russian, also created the AKO Foundation to support charitable initiatives to improve education, promote the arts and mitigate climate problems. He is credited with holding the most comprehensive collection of mid-20th century Norwegian art.

As Chief Sustainability and Commercial Officer for SAP Sustainability, Sophia and her teams oversee SAP’s corporate sustainability and bring sustainability to market for our customers. Sophia’s long-standing area of focus is in guiding organisations on how to balance immediate financial goals with sustainability and ESG governance for long-term business viability. She has deep expertise in sustainability and specialises in executive stakeholder engagement. She designed and taught the first ESG at Harvard Extension School, is a recognised public voice on ESG, and was chosen as one of the top 10 sustainability leaders of the year by the industry’s leading publication, Sustainability Magazine. Sophia has a Master of Science in sustainable management from Columbia University.

Lutz Hegemann
President global health and sustainability, Novartis
Lutz Hegemann leads the Novartis Global Health unit and is responsible for integrating ESG goals into the core of the pharmaceutical company’s business. The Global Health unit works to improve health care in low- and middle-income countries with programmes targeting malaria, neglected tropical diseases and non-communicable diseases such as sickle cell disease. It also represents the company’s business in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Hegemann, who began his career as a public health physician and scientist, joined Novartis in its consumer health division in 2005. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Christelle Capdupuy joined the French luxury fashion company in 2018 to help shape its sustainability strategy. The strategy focuses on two goals. One is preserving natural resources through responsible sourcing, circular creativity and carbon-footprint reduction. The other is having an impact on society through strong commitments for diversity and inclusion and through the transmission of know-how in working with local communities. A scientist by training, she began her career in marketing at Unilever and Materis before joining Bouygues Group as the director of sustainability at its Immobilier division.

Thomas Hörnfeldt
Vice president sustainable business, SSAB
Thomas Hörnfeldt has over three decades’ experience in management, sales, marketing and sustainability in the metals, construction and process-automation industries. He joined Stockholm-based SSAB, Scandinavia’s largest steel-sheet manufacturer, in 2014 and rose to his current position four years later. As vice-president, he oversees the incorporation of sustainability into SSAB’s business model. He began his career at Swedish-Swiss multinational ABB, where he spent 13 years and rose to become vice-president, and later held management positions at several Scandinavian companies—Ruukki Sverige, Ruukki Metals, Atlas Copco Dynapac and Ovako Group.
