Tim Curry makes a rare public appearance
Tim Curry made his first public appearance in almost three years on Sunday, in honor of the Tony Awards.
The English actor, who introduced the world to the character of Frank 'n' Furter on stage in The Rocky Horror Picture Show – later reprising his transvestite in the cult classic 1975 film – popped up at a Tony Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles, where he was honored with The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award.
Curry suffered a stroke nearly three years ago that continues to affect his speech. "I'm doing well," he told Los Angeles magazine, nothing that a sense of humor has been "vital. Absolutely vital. It's not tough to maintain. It is just part of my DNA."
In Curry's honor, the night kicked off with a performance of The Time Warp from Rocky Horror from Orange Is The New Black's Sebastian La Cause, Jersey Boys' Renée Marino and The Fosters' Ashley Argota.
Over the years Curry starred on Broadway as King Arthur in Spamalot and Mozart in Amadeus and memorably played Rooster in the film version of Annie.

On Sunday, he recalled what it was like opening night of Rocky Horror on Broadway. "It was very exciting," he said. "I had to go on the Today Show the next day and they read the reviews – which were appalling. That brought me down. It was very cruel."
