HANDBALL
1. HANDBALL: THE SPORT.
Origin of the sport: Team handball was developed in northern Europe at the end of the
1800s. It was especially popular in Sweden and Norway.
El balonmano se desarrolló en Europa del norte a finales del siglo XIX. Fue muy popular sobre
todo en Suecia y Noruega.
Objective of the game: To put the ball in the goal of the opposing team. The team that
scores the most goals wins.
El objetivo es meter el balón en la portería del equipo contrario. El equipo que más goles marque,
gana el partido.
Playing area: The dimensions of a handball court are 40 x 20 m.
Las dimensiones del campo de balonmano son 40 x 20 metros.
Duration:Two 30 minute halves, with a 10 minute break at half-time.
Los partidos de balonmano tienen dos mitades de 30 minutos, con 10 minutos de descanso entre
mitad y mitad.
Players: Each team has 12 members: 7 players (6 field players and a goalkeeper) and 5
reserves. Substitution of players can be done in any number and at any time during game
play.
Cada equipo tiene 12 componentes: 7 jugadores ( 6 jugadores de campo y 1 portero) y 5 reservas.
Pueden realizarse todos los cambios que se quiera, en cualquier momento del partido.
Ball: Different size and weight balls are used for men, women, beginners, children, youth and
junior categories.
Hay distintos tamaños y pesos de balón para las diferentes categorías principiantes, hombres,
mujeres.
Referees: A Handball match is led by two referees. One court referee and one goal line
referee. Un partido de balonmano cuenta con dos árbitros, un árbitro de pista y otro de línea.

4. BASIC RULES:
DOUBLE DRIBBLING: The ball is dribbled using one hand, moving the wrist
vertically downwards. Once the ball has been dribbled and caught, it cannot be
dribbled again. It must either be passed to a team-mate or shot on goal after three
steps or three seconds. It is penalized with a free throw.
DOBLES: el balón se bota con una mano, moviendo la muñeca verticalmente arriba y abajo.
Cuando se bota el balón y se agarra, ya no se puede volver a botar. Hay que pasarlo o tirar
a portería tras dar 3 pasos. Si cometes “dobles” el otro equipo saca.
TRAVELLING: A foul committed by a player who takes more than three steps
without bouncing the ball. It is penalized with a free throw.
PASOS: se pita pasos cuando un jugador da más de 3 pasos con el balón en la
mano sin botar.
ENTERING THE GOAL AREA: Only the goalkeeper can enter the goal area
(between the goal and the 6-meter line) although it is possible to jump from behind
the line, release the ball, then land inside the goal area.
ENTRAR EN EL ÁREA: Solo el portero puede pisar el área de portería ( línea de 6 metros)
aunque se permite saltar, soltar el balón y luego caer dentro del área. El jugador tiene que
soltar el balón antes de pisar.
PASSIVE PLAY: If the team in possession of the ball does not play as if attempting
to score a goal, the referees will penalize this team for unsportsmanlike conduct.
PASIVO: Si el equipo que ataca no juega con intención de meter gol, los árbitros pitarán
“juego pasivo”
TOUCHING THE BALL BELOW THE KNEES: The ball cannot be hit or touched with
the foot although it is not considered a foul when an opposing player throws the ball
at a player’s leg or if it is an involuntary action.
TOCAR EL BALÓN DEBAJO DE LA RODILLA: no se puede tocar el balón con el pie a no
ser que sea una acción involuntaria o que otro jugador lance el balón contra el pie de otro.
