¿Qué estás haciendo ?- what are you doing?
- Present Progressive tense in Spanish: Action in

progress----To tell that the action is going on.
Consider the sentence: I am eating
I am: Auxillary verb( to be)----- this form is variable as per who does the action( I am, you are, he/she
is,we are,they are)
Eating: p.progessive action-----this form remains the same whoever does the action
The formation of present continuous tense/progressive tense is done like this:
Subject (who is the doer) +corresponding conjugated form of the verb ‘to be’(estar) + the ‘’ing
‘’form of the action verb .
Present Progressive tense: 2 parts
1. Auxillary verb: ( who is the doer?)Estar: which shows/indicates who is doing the action.
Subject+ conjugated form of estar verb
If subject is Yo, then estar form also will be yo
Yo estoy
2. Principal verb: ( what is the action )(gerund/ing form) which indicates what is the action
going on
Gerundio/Present progressive form of the

main verb:
Verbo Estar: AR verbs: Remove Ar, add: ‘Ando’
Yo estoy Ex: Hablar: Hablando: speaking
Jugar- jugando
Escuchar: to listen: Escuchando: listening
Trabajar: to work: trabajando: working
Tú estás ER/IR verbs: Remove ER/IR, Add: ‘iendo’
Él,ella,ud está Ex: comer(toe at ): Comiendo: eating
Nosotros estamos Vivir: Viviendo: living.
Vosotros estáis
Ellos/ellas/uds están
Examples:
1. I am speaking with my friend.
Doer:I : yo
Corresponding form of estar as per the doer: yo estoy
Main verb: speaking: to speak: hablar

Habl+ando=hablando
With my friend: con mi amigo
Yo estoy hablando con mi amigo/a.
2. Shriya is walking in the park( to walk: caminar)
Doer: shriya: Ella
Corresponding form of estar: ella está
Caminar > caminando( ar ending verb, we add ando)
Shriya está caminando en el parque.
3. Carmen is speaking on the phone.
Carmen está hablando por teléfono
4. Armando is writing a letter. ( write – escribir)
Armando está escribiendo una carta.
5. Miguel is listening to music.
Miguel está escuchando a la música.

Near (This)- 4 letters: Spanish equivalent to near: este/esta also has 4 letters.
