    Part 1 - IELTS Speaking

    - 4-5 minutes
    - 6-10 questions (3-4 topics)
    - General topic questions
    - Purpose: to know candidates better  personal questions (mostly)

    I. Structure:
    - Length: 2-4 sentences = 2-6 clauses
    - Can use compound/complex sentences, relative clauses
    - Method: direct
    1. First sentence: Introduction/Topic sentence  Direct answer
    Example question: Where is your hometown? (Hometown)
    Sample answer: My hometown is Hanoi.  I was born and raised in Hanoi.
    2. Following sentence(s):
    Explain Describe
    Answer the question of ‘Why?’ Answer the question of:
    ‘What?’
    ‘Who?’
    ‘Where?’
    ‘When?’
    ‘How?’
    ‘Which?’
    …
    Or maybe just actually describe
     Include more relevant information
    - Give example(s) (often personal & specific – names, places, time/frequency, quantity,
    pronouns/nouns)
    Example question: Where is your hometown? (Hometown)
    Sample answer: I was born and raised in Hanoi. It’s the capital of Vietnam and in the
    Northern part of the country.
