Installation of OPC server for TIMS using Modbus RS485 or
Modbus Ethernet.

General
TIMS OPC server is a program that makes it possible to transfer values from one or
more TIMS and one or more client(s). These client applications are OPC clients e.g. a
SCADA or HMI system. Part number for the OPC server is 978.0349-00

TIMS OPC server is a COM server that is installed as a Windows service. This means
that the program is launched automatically when the computer on which it is installed
is started and it is thus always available to provide data.

TIMS OPC server can be installed on one of the following operating systems:
• Windows NT 4
• Windows 2000
• Windows XP

System requirements (minimum)


• Pentium ll
• 266 MHz processor
• 64 MB RAM

Installation
Insert the CD in the computer’s CD reader, and follow the instructions in the install
shield.
If the OPC-server comes with a USB hardware lock install the hardware lock and then
install the OPC-server from the CD.

License management
After installation of the software, the program will run with full functionality and with
all drivers available for five days.
After that, the license has to be registered, or the program will go into demo mode.
A demo version of the program can be downloaded from
www.beijerelectronics.com.
The demo version cannot be licensed.
Without a valid license, the program may be started in demo mode.
It will then run for 30 minutes with full functionality and with all drivers available.

Registration
Note:
If the OPC-server comes with a USB hardware lock; no registration is required.
Jump to Configuration file

After installing the program on the computer that will be used for the OPC server, a
form for registration of the license is available under Help/Register.
Select Order registration key from distributor, and fill in the CD Key from the
software CD and the other information in the form.
Select Send e-mail and click Finish to automatically open the computer’s standard e-
mail program.
The e-mail address [email protected] is automatically filled in.
Selecting Print instead sends the registration form to the computer’s standard printer,
to send the registration form by fax or mail.
After sending the form by e-mail, fax or mail to the supplier, a registration code will
be returned in order to license the program.
To license the program, select Help/Register/Enter registration key and enter the
registration key received from Beijer Electronics.
Then add the number of controllers purchased into the OPC server project.

Configuration file

Copy the configuration file (e.g. Sandvik_Serial.czc or Sandvik_Ethernet.czc) to the


folder where the OPC server was installed, default is:
[Program Files]\Beijer Electronics AB\Beijer Electronics OPC Server.
Start the OPC server e.g. from Start |Program|Beijer Electronics OPC
Server|Beijer Electronics OPC Server.
Open the configuration file by selecting File|Open , pointing at the configuration file
and clicking Open.
Start the OPC server from the menu with Server|Start or by pressing F5.

To start the OPC server
• Start the OPC server by clicking on the:
• Sandvik_serial.czc or Sandvik_Ethernet icon.
• To configure communication - right click on ”TIMS_Modbus”

This button must be on. (Server stopped)

• Click on the Property dialog…

For RS485:
• Click on “Serial” If necessary change the com-port. The rest is OK

• Click on Apply.

For Ethernet:
• Click on “TCP” If necessary change the IP-address. The rest is OK

To run the OPC server
The “TIMS_Modbus” should be lit up.
The glasses should be activated.
Click on “Play”

If the communication is OK the “Quality” should be good and there will be shown
values from the sensors in “Value”.
Further on the OPC server will start automatically whenever a client is accessing it.

OPC client
The OPC server is now ready to be connected to an OPC client. Most modern
SCADA system has an inbuilt OPC client, which makes it easy to visualize the data
from TIMS on a computer screen.
