Comidas Tipicas de El Salvador
Los tamales de elote, tamales de gallina india, las riguas, la yuca frita y en las bebidas los
atoles que forman ya una tradición en el paladar de los salvadoreños.
Para aquellos que viven fuera de nuestro país, la cocina salvadoreña es aún más apetecida,
ya que disfrutar de los platillos típicos de el salvador los hacen sentir y recordar su tierra
natal. Las pupusas es uno de los platillos más degustado, es común encontrar en cualquier
parte una pupusería como se les conoce.
1. Las pupusas
Son elaboradas con una masa de maíz o arroz. Tiene la forma de una tortilla, pero en su
interior tiene un relleno de diferentes ingredientes como quesillo, que es una variedad de
queso chicloso, chicharrón molido, frijoles, ajo, jalapeños, camarones, pollo, espinaca,
mora, entre otros ingredientes.
Las más comunes son las revueltas (queso, chicharrón y frijoles), queso con loroco y frijol
con queso. Se acompañan de salsa preparadas con tomates naturales y un encurtido que se
prepara con repollo, zanahoria, cebolla rallado y, en ocasiones, chile. Todo va sumergido en
vinagre.
3. Sopa de pata
La sopa de pata es un caldo en el que su ingrediente principal es la pata de la vaca, de ahí se
deriva el nombre. Se complementa con una gran variedad de verduras como la yuca,
plátano, repollo, pipianes, ejotes y güisquil; que le dan un toque de sabor incomparable.
Cuando la preparación está lista, se acompaña con chiles jalapeños cortados en pequeños
trozos con cebolla y cilantro. Solo faltan unas gotas de limón y tendrán un almuerzo
soñado.
4. Salpicón
Otra opción culinaria de la gastronomía salvadoreña es el salpicón. Éste plato se prepara
con posta de res que se cocina y se corta en trozos muy pequeños, se combina con hierba
buena, cebolla, rábanos, sal y limón. Otra variante de este platillo es sustituir la carne de res
por carne de conejo.
Su masa es preparada de maíz y sazonada con especias que le dan un sabor exquisito, luego
es rellenado con salsa de tomates naturales y carne de gallina, cerdo o pato; luego son
envueltos en las hojas de las plantas de plátano y cocinados en agua.
Tamales pisques
Son tamales preparados siempre con masa de maíz, pero a diferencia del de gallina, solo
lleva como relleno frijoles y queso.
Tamal de chipilín
El de chipilín se prepara con una planta comestible con el mismo nombre, se puede
acompañar de una salsa de tomate con un toque de picante, que se le agrega al momento de
servirlo.
El tamal de elote
Se hacen de la mazorca del maíz que aún está tierna. La mezcla se prepara con crema de
leche, leche, manteca y, en algunas ocasiones, se le puede poner un poco de azúcar en
sustitución de la sal. A diferencia de los tamales anteriores, éste se envuelve en las hojas de
las mismas mazorcas.
7. Atol
Los atoles son exquisitos y muy variados. Su consistencia es espesa y se consumen
calientes. Pueden ser hechos a base de elote, semillas de marañón, maíz tostado, piña y el
famoso atol shuco que se prepara con maíz fermentado, agua y alhuashte, que es un polvo
que se prepara de la semilla del ayote.
8. Chilate
Es una variedad de atol que se prepara a base de masa de maíz, jengibre y pimienta gorda.
Es ideal para acompañar platillos típicos dulces y se sirve caliente.
9. Dulces artesanales
Los dulces típicos no pueden faltar en ninguna feria. Dulces de coco rallado, conservas,
dulce de leche, dulces de tamarindo, nance, camote y un sinfín de variedades. Todos son
hechos de forma artesanal, con frutas naturales y libres de persevantes.

10. Enchiladas
Este platillo es un delicioso antojo para comer a media tarde. La masa es preparada de igual
manera que los pastelitos, con la diferencia que esta tiene forma de una tortilla que se pone
a freír en un sartén con suficiente aceite. Luego se deja enfriar un poco y se le coloca
curtido, huevo duro, aguacate, queso rallado y se le agrega salsa de tomates naturales. En
ocasiones se puede cubrir con frijoles molidos, antes de colocar los demás ingredientes.
11. Empanadas
Esta es otra buena opción para degustar junto a una taza de café. Las empanadas son
preparadas con una masa hecha a base de plátanos maduros. El plátano se cocina y luego se
prepara un puré con ellos.
Cuando está listo se hace una poleada a base de leche o se puede rellenar con frijoles
molidos. Luego se forma una tortilla para agregar en el centro la poleada o los frijoles. Se
cierra la tortilla de tal manera que el relleno quede en el centro y se forme una bolita.
Cuando están listas se ponen a freír en una cacerola con suficiente aceite. Al estar doraditas
se sacan y luego se le puede agregar azúcar al gusto.
12. Nuégados
Su sabor dulce lo convierte en otro de los favoritos a degustar si estás de visita en El
Salvador. Es perfecto para acompañarlo con chilate, otro típico.
Los nuégados se pueden preparar a base de yuca y de masa de maíz. Se preparan ambas
masas y luego se fríen en una sartén con suficiente aceite. Cuando ya están listos, se elabora
una miel a base de dulce de panela.

1. The pupusas
They are made with a mass of corn or rice. It has the shape of an omelet, but inside it has a
filling of different ingredients like quesillo, which is a variety of chewy cheese, ground
pork rinds, beans, garlic, jalapeños, shrimp, chicken, spinach, blackberry, among other
ingredients.
The most common are the revolts (cheese, pork rinds and beans), cheese with loroco and
beans with cheese. They are accompanied by salsa prepared with natural tomatoes and a
pickle that is prepared with cabbage, carrot, grated onion and, occasionally, chili.
Everything is submerged in vinegar.
Cassava is an edible root that can be salted (cooked in salted water) or fried. It is
accompanied with snack, which is a preparation based on pork, pork rinds or fished, a
variety of small fish that becomes fried.
3. Leg soup
The paw soup is a broth in which the main ingredient is the leg of the cow, hence the name
is derived. It is complemented with a great variety of vegetables such as yucca, banana,
cabbage, pipianes, green beans and güisquil; that give a touch of incomparable flavor.
When the preparation is ready, it is accompanied with jalapeño peppers cut into small
pieces with onion and cilantro. Only a few drops of lemon are missing and they will have a
dreamed lunch.
4. Salpicón
Another culinary option of Salvadoran cuisine is salpicón. This dish is prepared with beef
stew that is cooked and cut into very small pieces, combined with good grass, onions,
radishes, salt and lemon. Another variant of this dish is to substitute beef meat for rabbit
meat.
Tamales are another specialty you can find in El Salvador. There is a wide variety of
chicken, corn, chipilín or pisques.
Its dough is prepared from corn and seasoned with spices that give it an exquisite flavor,

Pisques Tamales
Tamales are always prepared with corn dough, but unlike chicken, it only takes as a stuffed
beans and cheese.
Chipilín Tamal
The chipilín is prepared with an edible plant with the same name, it can be accompanied by
a tomato sauce with a spicy touch, which is added at the time of serving.
Corn tamale
They are made from corn cob that is still tender. The mixture is prepared with cream, milk,
butter and, sometimes, you can put a little sugar to replace the salt. Unlike the previous
tamales, it is wrapped in the leaves of the same ears.
They are also known as Migueleño breads, because they are characteristic of the
department of San Miguel, in the eastern part of the country, they are attractive for their
flavor and size. It is a bread of elongated flour, which in the part of the inside is placed
tomato, cucumber, lettuce, watercress and, if the person prefers it, it can be placed pickled.
After that, a portion of chicken meat is placed and when serving it, a natural tomato-based
sauce is added.
7. Atol
The atoles are exquisite and very varied. Their consistency is thick and they are consumed
hot. They can be made with corn, cashew seeds, toasted corn, pineapple and the famous
shuco atol prepared with fermented corn, water and alhuashte, which is a powder that is
prepared from the seed of the ayote.
8. Chilate
It is a variety of atol that is prepared based on corn dough, ginger and pepper. It is ideal to
accompany typical sweet dishes and is served hot.
9. Artisan sweets
Typical sweets can not miss at any fair. Grated coconut candy, preserves, dulce de leche,
tamarind candies, nance, sweet potato and countless varieties. All are made by hand, with
natural fruits and free of perseverants.

10. Enchiladas

11. Empanadas

a dough made from ripe bananas. The banana is cooked and then a puree is prepared with
them.
When it is ready, make a poleada based on milk or you can fill it with ground beans. Then
an omelette is formed to add poleada or beans to the center. The tortilla is closed in such a
way that the filling is in the center and a ball is formed. When they are ready, they are fried

12. Nuagados
Its sweet flavor makes it another favorite to taste if you are visiting El Salvador. It is perfect
to accompany it with chilate, another typical one.
Nuagados can be prepared based on cassava and corn dough. Prepare both doughs and then
fry them in a pan with enough oil. When they are ready, a honey based on panela candy is
