Hello everyone! I am thrilled to publicly release "𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱", the first prototype iteration of an AI message fraud detector designed for the elderly audience. It is a project started in my master's at Esade in the Prototyping with Data/AI course. I thank Carlos Lara for working with me on the ideation/viability study for this project. I also want to thank Prof. Jose A. Rodriguez-Serrano for his continued support throughout the course and my class peers for asking relevant questions in the final presentation of this project a few months ago which helped me improve this first iteration. To give some context, in 2023, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟲𝟬 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 $𝟯.𝟰 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨.𝗦., an almost 11% increase in reported losses from 2022. The truth is that anyone can be a victim of a cyber scam, and scammers tend to target this specific audience. Our motivation for creating this tool is to protect the emotional and financial safety of the elderly and their surrounding relatives/family members. The prototype is meant to be straightforward, with a simple user interface that allows showcasing its functionality, providing high-level explanations of how the AI model works and several FAQs about the solution.
