There are beautiful #bird species to be found in the Murcia region. Last week, we shared a post about the European roller spotted on La Junquera Farm. This week, we highlight the critical role of birds. In an article on Wikifarmer by our former student Florence E., titled "Birds: an essential player in the agroecosystem balance," the significance of birds in the agroecosystem is highlighted. Read the article to learn more about how birds contribute to healthier and more resilient landscapes. https://lnkd.in/e_CGitz7 #RegenerativeAgriculture #Biodiversity #Agroecosystem #Biodiversity

We're addressing a critical issue in the Valle del Quipar: nitrate pollution in our subterranean waters. Over 12 of 17 sampled sources exceed nitrate limits, with levels reaching up to 70 mg/L, impacting our health and the environment. Designating this area as vulnerable to nitrates is an important step to protect this vulnerable water resource. At La Junquera, we're committed to reversing this trend through regenerative farming, aiming to restore the Quipar River and its ecosystem. Join us in our mission to protect and revitalize one out of many endangered watersheds for future generations. #Sustainability #Waterquality #Regenerativeagriculture #Environmentalprotection #ValleDelQuipar #LaJunquera #consejeriadeagricultura #Caravacadelacruz

The European roller - Coracias garrulus - nests on La Junquera Farm farm! This beautiful #bird migrates vast distances, about 10.000km, from its breeding grounds in Europe and Asia to its wintering space in Sub-Saharan Africa. Unfortunately, its population in Europe is declining for various reasons, one of them being the degradation of its nesting grounds through intensive #agriculture. We are so happy to see them at la Junquera. These birds, with their bright colors, not only add to the natural beauty of our farm but also play a crucial role in #pestcontrol. Next week we share more about the importance of birds in the #agroecosystem. In the meantime, if anyone has managed to take a picture of the European roller, we would love for you to share them. #regenerativeagriculture #biodiversity

As more young people are inspired to return to the countryside and take up farming, they face a unique set of challenges, like we did. At La Junquera Farm we are committed to addressing these hurdles and supporting the new generation of rural entrepreneurs. 🌾 Some of the key challenges that we have faced while building La Junquera these past 10 years: 1. Knowledge and training: farming requires a diverse skill set and deep knowledge of sustainable practices. Many young people lack access to training and mentorship in regenerative agriculture. 2. Infrastructure and services: rural areas often have limited access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and public transport making it less attractive for young families. 3. Market access: competing with large-scale industrial farms was scary. Young farmers need support in marketing their products and accessing fair markets. 4. Community and social life: moving to a rural area can be isolating, especially for those used to the fast paced lifestyle of the city. Building a supportive community is crucial for long-term success. Some solutions that we have worked on these past 10 years: 1. Learning from organizations like Commonland and AlVelAl about innovative practices and providing comprehensive training in regenerative agriculture, offering future farmers and agrifood professionals the skills and knowledge they need to succeed through the Regeneration Academy. 2. Building a place where we can live, connect, collaborate, and support each other. 3. Working to secure funding and land access for entrepreneurs who want to develop their businesses. 4. Community building: by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, we ensure that young people feel at home in the countryside, surrounded by a supportive network. The return of young people to the countryside is so important for the future of regenerative agriculture and rural communities. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can create a thriving ecosystem where young farmers and entrepreneurs can flourish. Do you want to change the way we live and work in rural areas? Visit our website to learn more about our initiatives and how you can get involved. Together, we can overcome these challenges and pave the way for a sustainable future. 🌱🚜 #YouthInAgriculture #RuralRevival #RegenerativeFarming #SustainableFuture #LaJunquera

Our Research Coordinator Clara-Hanna Bosch is at the IFOAM Organics Europe conference in Italy, where she participates in the panel ''Who's who in organic agriculture?''. ''Together with Karla Škorjanc, Marco Paravicini Crespi, and Rudolf Pulktenis. We explored the commonalities of regenerative farming, biodynamics, agroecology, and organic farming''. Such an important conversation to have. What are your thoughts on commonalities between the latter? #regenerativeagriculture #biodynamics #agroecology #organic #farming
I am grateful to IFOAM Organics Europe for organizing such an insightful conference. The first day was a great success, with many inspiring speakers. It was an honor to be part of the panel, "Who’s Who in Organic Agriculture?" representing La Junquera Farm and Regeneration Academy. Together with Karla Škorjanc, Marco Paravicini Crespi, and @Rudolfs Pulktenis. We explored the commonalities of regenerative farming, biodynamics, agroecology, and organic farming. Key Takeaways: - The necessity for collaboration across all sectors to achieve meaningful progress and the need for uniting the movements and the lobbing for sustainable agriculture - The need to move beyond organic certification mesures towards more regenerative/sustainable farming practices. - The importance of supporting farmers in their transition to sustainable/regenerative practices, with finance, policy, knowledge and more. Understanding that all farmers have different contexts. Let's continue to work together, share our knowledge, and drive the change needed for a healthier planet. 🌱💚 #OEYE2024 #OrganicYouth #IFOAM #Organic #IFOAMOrganicsEurope #RegenerativeAgriculture #Sustainability #Collaboration #SupportFarmers #BeyondOrganic

I’m excited to share some news about our efforts to improve soil health at La Junquera over the past 5 years, even in the challenging conditions of dryland farming. When we started, our soil was struggling (and large parts still are!). Low organic matter and signs of erosion made it tough to grow healthy crops. But with dedication and patience, we’ve seen amazing progress! What we’ve achieved: -Boosted organic matter: Increased from 0.7% to 1.7%, making our soil richer and more fertile. - Increased nitrogen: Raised from 0.049% to 0.09%, essential for robust plant growth. - Healthier soil ecosystem Microbial biomass enhanced from 680 mgC/kg-1 to 1860mgC/kg-1, showing our soil is alive and doing well. - Better soil structure: Stable aggregates improved by 3%, ensuring a more resilient soil. These improvements didn’t come easy. They’re the result of 5 years of leaving a mulch, minimum tillage and organic amendments, . It shows that with the right care, even dryland soils can be transformed. We’re committed to continuing this journey, aiming for a much better soil health and productivity in the future.
