Dissemination

 

the spread of pathogens from an infectious and isolated focus or of tumorous cells from the main site to other parts of an organ or throughout the entire organism via the circulatory and lymphatic systems. After dissemination, generalization of the pathological process usually sets in; there is development of new, frequently numerous, foci, or metastases.
