Recklinghausen

 

a city in the Federal Republic of Germany, in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, in the interfluve of the Emscher and Lippe rivers. Population, 125,400 (1972). Recklinghausen is a port on the Rhine-Herne Canal and a coal mining center. There is general machine building, ferrous metallurgy, and the manufacture of steel structures. The city also has a textile industry.
