In west-central NV northeast of Reno; organized Mar 18, 1919 from Humboldt County. Name Origin: For Gen. John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing (1860-1948), an officer who served in Cuba, the Philippines, and Manchuria; commander in chief of the American Expeditionary Force (1917-18) during WWI, and U.S. army chief of staff (1921-24)
