perspex

A trade name for a type of plastic of the methyl methacrylate family. It is transparent and used in aircraft canopies, windows, and front screens (windshields). It is designed to withstand normal flight loads, rapid changes in environmental temperatures, and to an extent impact loads from bird strikes. It is, however, prone to crazing over time from environment effects.
