Loir-Et-Cher
a department in central France, primarily in the Loire Valley. Area, 6,400 sq km; population, 279,000 (1972). The prefecture is Blois. Grain, sugar beets, and potatoes are grown; there is viticulture, fruit growing, and stock raising. The department has food, machine-building, and wool industries.
