Kimmel, Husband Edward

Kimmel, Husband Edward

(1882–1968) naval officer; born in Henderson, Ky. He was the commander in chief, U.S. fleet, during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. He was suspended from command and a presidential board of inquiry found him guilty of dereliction of duty (1942), but a naval court found no blame or mistakes in his judgment (1944). He published his side of the controversy in Admiral Kimmel's Story (1955).
