Acting President Han, Alaska Gov. discuss energy cooperation
SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) -- Acting President Han Duck-soo held a meeting with Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Tuesday during which they discussed ways to expand cooperation in energy and other sectors, Han's office said.
The meeting came as the United States seeks South Korea's involvement in its stalled US$44 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline project, which U.S. President Donald Trump has called on South Korea and other Asian nations to participate in.
South Korea "is Alaska's largest trading partner and I hope that economic cooperation, including in energy, will continue to expand in the future," Han said in a statement.
Han also addressed Trump's interest in areas such as shipbuilding, expressing hope that the bilateral alliance will continue to grow under the new U.S. administration.
Dunleavy said he hopes the visit would lead to productive discussions on further developing energy cooperation, including Alaska's LNG project, according to the office.
