Etymology

[edit]

From Old Norse varðhygi.

Noun

[edit]

vardøger n (definite singular vardøgeret, indefinite plural vardøger, definite plural vardøgera)

  1. (folklore) a déjà vu in reverse, where the vardøger-spirit precedes a person in a location or activity, resulting in witnesses believing they've seen or heard the actual person before the person physically arrives. It can occur not only like a doppelganger of a person, but also a doppelganger of an animal or a car-driving person.
