Italian
[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]From Latin faenum (“hay”),[1][2][3] which derives from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁(y)-no-, from *dʰeh₁(y)-. Another proposed etymology is a Vulgar Latin *flēnum,[4] from a blending of flōs (“flower”) and faenum.
