[edit]From Vulgar Ottoman Turkish طوموز (domuz, “pig”), a variant of طوڭوز (doñuz), from Old Anatolian Turkish طوڭوز (doŋuz, “pig”), from Common Turkic *toŋuz (“pig”). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐱃𐰆𐰭𐰆𐰕 (toŋuz), Azerbaijani donuz, Bashkir дуңғыҙ (duñğıź), Kazakh доңыз (doñyz), Kyrgyz доңуз (doŋuz), Turkmen doňuz, Uyghur توڭگۇز (tongguz), and Uzbek toʻngʻiz.
