[edit]Etymology
[edit]Of disputed origin. Perhaps from the Roman name, Latin Vindobona,[1] or possibly from a Celtic word *Veduna (“forest stream”), which would justify the phonetic evolution into the modern french form. Compare Proto-Celtic *widus (“woodland”).[2]
