First attested as Liessent in 1699. Compound of lies (“great manna grass, Glyceria maxima”) and eind (“end, edge”). The second element is likely to be a reinterpretation from hout (“rising deciduous forest”). Compare Boekend, Lieseind, Lieshout, Ulvend and Vaareind.
