[edit]Apparently from a Proto-Lolo-Burmese *bi¹ (“anvil”), though it has been speculated that the word is a borrowing into Lolo-Burmese from some unidentified language, due to the irregular correspondence between the Burmese form and Lahu [script needed] (pì-tɛ, “idem”) (STEDT).
