[edit]From the verb قایتمق (kaytmak, “to return, turn”) + ـان (-an, “suffix creating non-past participles”). Alternatively, compare Medieval Latin gaitanum, Greek γαϊτάνι (gaïtáni), and Arabic قِيطَان (qīṭān).
