[edit]Per Vasmer, formed as if from Old East Slavic *настъ (*nastŭ), from на (na) + *стъ, combining form of the Proto-Indo-European root *steh₂-. Compare Old East Slavic обнастывати (obnastyvati, “to cover”), рознастити (roznastiti, “to uncover”).
