Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German naschen, from Old High German nascōn (“to nibble; smack”), from Proto-West Germanic *hnaskwōn (“to make soft; tenderize; crush; grind”). Cognate with English nesh (“to soften; act timidly”) and English nosh (“snack”). More at nesh.

- to eat titbits, to graze, to nosh, often (though not necessarily) on the sly, as of sweets or food that is being prepared

- You may eat one little dumpling right here, but the rest is for later when the guests arrive.
