  1. speak, say, talk
    • 2005, Iain F. MacLeòid, Na Klondykers:
      Bruidhnidh iad air an àite as fheàrr.
      They will speak about the best place.
    • 1999, Gairm, volume 188:
      Cha do bhruidhinn mi riamh ris ach Gàidhlig.
      I have ever spoken only Gaelic to him.
      (literally, “I haven’t ever spoken to him but Gaelic.”)

Usage notes

  • Used with the preposition ri when meaning speaking to:
    Cha do bhruidhinn mi ris.I did not speak to him.
  • Used with the preposition air when meaning speaking about:
    Bruidhnidh iad air an àite.They will speak about the place.
