How to create subpages

We talked today about how to create subpages. As I said, I think you are BRAVE for volunteering to help others :)! So, here's the deal. Get them to add something like this code to their userpages:

==Subpages== (this heading could say anything)
* [[/Subpagename]] (this creates a bullet-point and a subpage link which could be called anything e.g., [[/Tutorial reflections]]

What's above is the simplest code. A little more complex (makes it a bit neater) is to use something like:

==Subpages==
* [[/Tutorial reflections|Tutorial reflections]] (the extra part renames the link)

Once you have added this code and saved the page, there will be a RED link to the subpage. This means that its not yet created. So, click on the RED link, add some stuff (anything) and save it. Now the subpage has been created. Up the top of the subpage will be a "breadcrumb"; this is the link back to the userpage.

Hi MandaG Thank you for your positive feedback on my e-portfolio. I’ve also found it interesting to read other’s comments on their tutorials etc. It is really good to “talk” to others about these pages. It takes me a bit of time to get the information together but I’ve also found that I need to write something pretty regularly, otherwise I loose it in a mess of my thoughts. It doesn’t really take that long to get the hang of page formatting, adding images etc and James et al are very helpful. Image help

Hi MandaG, you asked about using images. The easiest way to start (I think) is to search Wiki commons. Find an image you like. Copy its exact name. Then on a Wikiversity page, the basic syntax is e.g., [[Image:Gestalt3.PNG]] which will give e.g., . Then you can try some fancier stuff e.g, here's how to resize, caption, and right align: [[Image:Gestalt3.PNG|thumb|right|150px|An example of an image used in gestalt psychology experiments.]]

Hi MandaG, you asked about using quotes. The simplest of course is just to put the quote as text, with quotation marks and appropriate attribution. A little feedback

Hi Manda, I've started reading through your reflections and some edits, to suggest some hints on some possible ways to continue improving, e.g., for the Week 1 lecture reflections, see [1]. This reflection indicates your full engagement in the lecture and your reactions to different parts, with honest examples from your own life (i.e., good stuff). Ways to improve might include adding some links (depth) to points of reference and also tidying up some grammar/spelling. You might also consider use of subheadings to organise the content (a level 2 heading would be, as on this talk page, created with two equals signs before and after a heading (e.g, ==A heading==). I also have added some links to User:MandaG/Tutorial and lecture 6. I noted that you didn't realise the lecture wasn't on! I'm sorry about that. You might want to check that you're signed up to the discussion list so that you receive email announcements. Best of all - you are showing endeavour, regularity of engagement, and PREPAREDNESS to comment, discuss, and ask questions - keep it up! I just wanted to make sure you know that I added a comment about community justice systems here: User talk:MandaG/Tutorial and lecture 6. Hopefully you have all your subpages on your watchlist (which automatically also watches their talk pages), so will pick these up? (Just making sure :)). Now that I know your double-degree is law/psychology, I'd be curious to hear more about any thoughts you have on possible intersections between the fields within the context of social psychology. Well done on adding your views, and yes by all means invite others to add things to that page. But a good alternative could also be to create a dedicated page (people can get lost I think when going onto pages which aren't very specific to the goal). e.g., you could create a page such as Student expectations of lecturers. If you like this idea, just click on the red link, add some "instructions" or questions, etc. and save. Then you can invite responses. Student expectations of lecturers

Great! This might be my favourite page on Wikiversity! I'm for real. It sets up for a valuable dialogue which I think we need more of - "students" voicing their views about teaching and learning, and "teachers" listening to those. I've added a little banner to invite contributions. For promotion, here's some ideas:

1. The url for the page is: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Student_expectations_of_lecturers. So you could email this to people, send it to the unit discussion list, etc.
2. Talk to lots of people and add their ideas for them (as you are already doing).

Suggestion - Make headings more meaningful

Just a thought - currently you list your content with headings by week - if you add also something to the heading about the theme/topic for that week, it would help visitors to know what they like to go to read about. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:17, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

OK, hopefully I made some changes towards what you're after - the link to your Jane Elliot tutorial has been added to your manual list of subpages and I've "commented out" the automatically listed subpages. This means its still in the code of your page (when you edit), but doesn't show at the moment. But its there in case you ever want to reactive (and find out what subpages you have). Regularity/Continuity Clearly you were well involved throughout semester - and this e-portfolio and your contributions on others' pages and Wikiversity are testament to your enthusiastic endeavour. (HD) Depth/Insightfulness Among other things, your e-portfolio brought a smile or laugh to me more I think than any other! (including that you wouldn't have written it if you'd been given a HD before-hand!) You've clearly considered the key ideas and knowledge about social psychology, reflected on, and communicated around this. Use of personal examples, images, and links, as well as effective use of subpages, posting your essay, creating and fostering the student expectations of lecturers page, etc. have added further richness. Preparedness to help others and contribute to others was beyond the call of duty, but it is what makes the social world tick and was one of my hopes, though not an expectation. Finally, your willingness to ask questions, learn, offer feedback, and to use different communication mediums has been most impressive and inspiring.
