Álvaro Pintado Santaularia (born 3 July, 2004) is a Spanish technology entrepreneur and businessman.[1] He is the founder and CEO of hello.app, a decentralized P2P storage startup valued at $16 million.[2] He founded hello.app at the age of 17.[3][4][5] Pintado, also known for having an IQ of 142 and being a member of Mensa International,[6][7] is the author of El Sistema Financiero Descentralizado, a book about DeFi and how the decentralized financial system could replace the traditional one.[8][9]

Pintado is also the creator and former CEO of Whispr,[10][11] a free (LLM) chatbot, and he is credited with one of the most expensive domain name purchases in Spain, having acquired www.hello.app for $115,000 at just 19 years old.[12][13] This transaction caught significant media attention and heavily increased his national notoriety.[14]

Education and career

Álvaro Pintado was born in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain to middle class Spanish parents.[15] He studied at Viaró Global School, a Catholic boys' institution in his hometown, where he also learned piano.[16] Afterwards, he went to UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) to study Telecommunications Engineering, but dropped out after 3 months to focus on his entrepreneurship career.[17][18]

In 2022, at 17 years old and still in school, he wrote the book El Sistema Financiero Descentralizado[19] and founded hello.app, a company that has since raised over $800,000[20] in funding from investors such as Esade, IESE Business School, and Bcombinator, among others. Its latest valuation was $16 million.[21][22]

hello.app is a decentralized storage network based on blockchain and distributed databases.[23][24] The concept is to use mobile devices to act as microservers, reducing reliance on large server farms owned by a few companies. Currently, hello.app has over 100,000 beta users across more than 200 countries.[25][26]
